WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder will defend his title against Tyson Fury in their highly anticipated rematch on Saturday 22nd February at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, USA.
Wilder and Fury fought to a split decision draw after 12 rounds of action meaning Wilder retained his title. The controversial decision was widely criticized with many thinking Fury did enough to win the bout. The champion dropped Fury twice during the fight, once in the ninth round and again in the twelfth round. Fury’s display of heart when he recovered from the knockdown in round 12 went viral and was circulated heavily online.
Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder (42-0-1) has successfully defended his WBC heavyweight title twice since the fight with Fury in December 2018. Wilder added another devastating knockout to his highlight reel when he scored a first-round knockout against Dominic Breazeale in May. The Bronze Bomber moved on to defend his title against Luis Ortiz a rematch in November. Deontay knocked out Ortiz in the seventh round to retain his title after being behind on all three of the judges’ scorecards.
Tyson Fury (29-0-1) handed the previously undefeated Tom Schwarz his first professional loss in June and captured the WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight title in the process. The Gyspy King was quick to follow up with a fight against Otto Wallin in September. Tyson won the fight by unanimous decision but was once again forced to overcome adversity after suffering bad cuts above his eye that affected his vision for the rest of the fight. Fury has kept himself busy with a brief stint in the WWE, where he appeared on their television shows and wrestled a match against Braun Strowman at WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia. The former heavyweight champion also got the Mixed Martial Arts world talking after footage was posted online of his MMA training with UFC star Darren Till.
